Covid19. What Can Govt and Business Houses Do?

Jotted my thoughts here on the title.

Govt should made arrangements to stock adequate oxygen cylinders and ventilators in all villages and towns.   Volunteers may be trained in the use of  Oxygen Cylinders.   Nursing Students, Medical Students, etc may be trained on the use of Ventilators.  Expert guidance over telephone and/or video may be made available at these points.

FICCI may ask large corporates to fund for the manufacture of additional oxygen cylinders, ventilators, medicines, food, beds, …  for the quarantine cases and also to the medical support staff and volunteers.  They may use their CSR budget for this purpose.  State CMs may approach the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at State Level.

Ambulances may be sponsored by business houses, trusts, …   New ambulances may be inducted for this purposes.   Vehicles like Maruti Van, … can be easily converted into ambulance in a short time.  New and Pre-owned Vans can be inducted into these.  These vehicles can help move patients from remote villages also to the nearest Covid treatment facility.   We already have 108 Medical Emergency infrastructure in place.

Help of our Defence forces may be taken, wherever necessary.    They have all the training and discipline to handle such emergencies.  Discussion with them may be initiated immediately.

Guidance from Gurudwaras who have great experience in running langars may be sought.

Help of IITs, NITs, … may be taken in developing low-cost solutions.    FICCI may identify business houses to funds these activities.

Help/guidance of retired doctors and nurses may be taken.   They can support remotely in providing guidance to the volunteers.

Temporary camps with proper shelter may be set-up to treat the patients.

Ensure that the helplines are adequate and are not choked up.

College hostels, college rooms, schools, universities campuses, … may be used (wherever necessary) to treat the Covid19 patients.

Club Houses in the Gated Communities may be used to treat patients in their Gated Community.

Railways have already converted a good number of coaches for supporting Covid19 patients.   Road Transport Corporations have also converted a good number of buses for this purpose.

Function Halls may also be converted to accommodate quarantine cases.    The function hall owners may be paid nominal rent for using their facility.

Playgrounds and stadium may also be used to house covid19 patients for treatment/quarantine.

Features in Aarogya Setu App may be enhanced to make it a one-stop-solution for #Covid19.   The infrastructure may be also be strengthened to avoid server choking or application crashing.   Google, Apple, … may be lined-up in this exercise to collaborate.

Till a vaccine is developed, Covid19 is going to spread.   If the current trend continues, there would be more than 200 lakhs Covid affected cases in India by Dec 2020.   Currently, we have crossed 10 lakhs in India.

And, by mid-2021, India would acquire a decent herd immunity.   Drugs would also be available by then.   Hopefully, a vaccine too.

Let's hope for the best.   This too shall pass.   Let's live life normally.

Covid19. What Should The Citizens Do? (MN2M)

Covid19 count has crossed 10 lakhs in India today.   Till a vaccine is developed, it would continue to infect the population.  If the current trend continues, more than 200 lakhs would be affected by Dec 2020 (as per me).

What should each citizen do?    Just follow the MOHFW guidelines on safety precautions from their website www.mohfw.gov.in    Do visit the site every week to check for latest updates, if any, on safety precautions.  And follow them at Home as well as at our Work place.

Every person must practice these.  Social distancing, use of masks, steam inhaling every day, drink warm water, sleep for 8 hours, eat well, expose to sunlight in the morning/evening for about 10 to 15 minutes, do some breathing exercises, do not follow news for more than one or twice a day, keep in touch with your friends, family, …

Do not self-medicate.   80 per cent of the people who get infected would not require any special medication, as per doctors.   The safety precautions prescribed on MOHFW website would do.    One will recover in two weeks.

Only those who have cough that is not subsiding, have breathing problem, have co-morbidities, … may seek medical help.   People with these symptoms must seek medical help immediately.

Do not panic.   This too will pass.   Do not forward negative messages on social media.   Not everyone is emotionally strong to face the reality.

Stay Safe.  Stay indoor, as far as possible.   Avoid going out as far as possible.

We can expect some drugs for Covid19 by Dec 2020.    And, a vaccine in 2021.   Let's hope for the best.

Covid19 Projections in India by Dec 2020 (MN2M)

Covid19 is going to be around for quite some time.   There is no vaccine for Covid19 yet.   Drugs for treatment of Covid19 can be expected in a few months.

Assuming that a vaccine is developed by Dec 2020, it would take further six months to produce and to administer the vaccine to every citizen in India.   Say, by June 2021.  Until then, Covid19 would continue to spread.

#Covid19   Today, the total affected cases have crossed 10 lakhs in India.   If the current trend continues, then by Dec 2020, we may have more than 200 lakh Covid19 affected people in India.

By mid-2021, we would acquire adequate herd immunity in India (even without a vaccine).   Of course, we would have some effective drugs for Covid19 by this yearend.

Covid19 Projections Noted in my Diary on 21st April 2020

The actual figures of #Covid19 affected people in India on 20th April 2020 was  17250.

It was doubling once in 11 days then.    I guessed then, if it doubles once in 15 days, then the count of affected persons in India would be:

5th May  34500

20th May  69000

5th June   128000

20th June 250000

5th July  5 lakhs

20th July 10 lakhs

5th Aug 20 lakhs

Was surprised to notice now that the projected count of 20th July 2020 (that I noted in my diary on 21st April 2020) is almost on the dot.   Hence, posted this on my blog for my consumption.

Shall post another one tomorrow on the projections by Dec 2020, as per me.   Just for my info, and to see how the actual figures would unfold.  Shall also share my thoughts on #Covid19.
